A Robot can be defined as any computer that has a form of independence, whether
it be independent thought, or self directed motion.
In GAMMA WORLD, these machines fall into 3 categories: ARTIFICIAL LIFE,
ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE, and PROGRAMMED MACHINE.
ARTIFICIAL LIFE is comprised of androids and some cyborgs because they are
formed by deliberate manipulation of genetic code and are composed of a
programmed organic brain coupled with the strength of a machine. Artificial
life views itself as living and superior to naturally generated life.
ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE includes all machines with the limited capability to
analyze, learn, think creatively and reason. This category includes robots and
computers possessing the capability to interpret and respond to a human's
desires. They are limited to actions within the categories of their
programming.
PROGRAMMED MACHINES include all vehicles and machines that can repeat a
programmed list of limited actions, but that cannot learn independently or
reason.
Robots can be reprogrammed, but it requires the proper Skills. A Cybernetic
Installation or a Think Tank can do the job, if it pleases them or if you can
get control of one (yeah, right!).
The Robot descriptions, following, list only the changes made in converting
them to this version. Refer to the "Official" books for details.
Description explanations:

Type: This is the general type as determined by the Robot's function.

Control: This is how the Robot is controlled. Choices are certain level ID
Cards (ID I-V), Electronic (E), and Computer (C).

Sensors: These are the types of sensors a Robot can have.

H = Human visual and audio ranges.
-
IU = Infrared and ultraviolet.
-
S = Microscopic.
-
T = Telescopic.
-
A = Audio (3x Human).
-
R = Radar/sonar.
-
C = Radio waves.
-
F = Feeling (3x Human).
-
M = Magnetic.
-
V = Vibrational.
-
Power: This is the Robot's power source. Those that run on Broadcast power may
possess auxiliary backup systems which will be in parenthesis.

A = Atomic Energy Cell.
-
B = Broadcast Power.
-
C = Chemical Cells.
-
H = Hydrogen Cells.
-
N = Nuclear Power Plant.
-
S = Solar Energy Cells.

If a number follows a power source, this is the number of hours of continuous
operation the power source provides.

Armor: This is the HP of the outer skin of the Robot. The number in
parenthesis is the HP of the interior components. When the interior HP are
expended, the Robot can no longer function, although it might be reparable.
All Robots take full damage to their interior components.

Speed: This lists the Robot's type of locomotion and the base speed. Robots
do not have the option of a Sprint (See
MISCELLANEOUS - Movement
).

Ability Scores: This lists the average Robot's ability scores and may vary if
your GM feels it necessary.

STR: Robots possess physical strength in excess of human and animal norms.
Since the maximum for any Stat is 20, Robots get a higher STR damage bonus if
their strength is determined to need it. Hit and Skill Values are calculated
in the same manner as they are with Characters.

WILL: This score is used primarily for Mental Defense against attacks.

INT: All programmed machines have an INT score of 7. Any others will have
varying scores as your GM chooses.

DEX: This is the same as it is with Characters.

CON: For all intents and purposes, a Robot does not have a Constitution. Only
Robots possessing organic parts will have scores as your GM determines.

Description: The description of the Robot lists any changes made by way of
converting to this edition. Robots may only repair themselves at 10 pts. per
day, and then only if the necessary materials are available.

Blaster cannons cause 35 points damage at a range of 300 yds., trek guns do the
same damage as trek bombs and have a range of 35 yds.
It is protected by a 100 point Force Field.
A Death Machine can attack up to 5 times per round.
They also emit an energy dampening field the fuses the circuits of robots
coming within 10 yds.
